Klungkung Regency Bali might be the smallest regency in Bali but the things that you can explore here is huge. The regency is the eastern part of Bali which is known as the place for classic Balinese paintings. Klungkung is located between Gianyar and Karangasem, and the part of three tiny island of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan belong to Klungkung. Nowadays, Nusa Penida and the adjoining island of Lembongan are cheerful places to visit, as they abound with caves to explore and excellent snorkeling and diving spots. Nusa Penida is visited by locals for on certain Balinese Hindus dates as there are several temples that regularly visited by Balinese Hindu especially on Full Moon. Klungkung Regency Bali is also the main route to Besakih Temple and Amlapura with Unda River flows through Klungkung and passes through many beautiful villages. One of the main tourists’ attractions is Semara Pura Palace that includes Kerta Gosa, a venue for the administration of justice by kings and priests during pre-colonial times. It is surrounded by a moat and its ceilings are decorated with beautiful paintings, which depict tortures in hell and happiness in heaven. There’s a floating pavilion, called Bale Kambang situated behind the Kerta Gosa where the ceiling depicts scenes of horror and punishment.
Some worth to visit in the regency includes Goa Lawah, a bat cave that is said to house the scared serpent that guards holy Mount Agung and the cosmos. Gelgel, a royal household was based in the village Gelgel in the fifteenth century. Kamasan, a small village of the origin of Balinese painting with the Kamasan style, based on shadow puppets or wayang and Kusamba, a salt panning village with a black sand beach that worth to be visited.
